Removing Unwanted Items:
Photographers- Elliott Erwitt and Ingrid Endel:
This is my favorite Elliott Erwitt portrait. The light was coming from above the face. The gesture of the model is surprised, the lighting highlights the eyes and makes the gesture come across better. The background is just plain black. The point of view is from straight ahead, and the distance is up close. The impact of this photo really highlights the way the face looks when surprised, by using shadows.
I love this Ingrid Endel portrait. The light is coming from the right but it was also balanced so the left would be lit up too, with a few shadows in the back. The gesture of the model is very serious and the body is shifted to face the left. The background is plain back. The point of view of the photographer is straight forward and close up. The message of the photo is to show that humans are a part of nature, since the girl has plants coming out of her face.
Portraits:
One of my favorite photos was photo 2. The light was coming from the right and fell on the right side of the models face with the left eye highlighted as well. (I left the left eye in color). The shadows that are created are coming from the light not illuminating the wall behind the model, since the models body was lighted instead. The model is sitting facing the camera directly. It is a head shot, and the model's head is not tilted. The picture was horizontal. The point of view was directly in front. I was close to the model to get all of the small facial features in focus. The lighting makes what would be a boring photo, into an interesting one. It creates a mood by only highlighting the eye on the left side of the face. The expression is serious, which also creates a mysterious mood. This photo overall shows how serious the model can be. This photo is different from 5 since this picture shows the fun side of the model. The model was laughing and the lighting wasn't as intense, so it creates a light and fun mood.
Landscape:
Double Exposure:
My favorite double exposure image was image 2. I selected a beach which was a vertical picture and a portrait of Lauren that was horizontal. I manipulated the beach image by changing the levels. I manipulated Lauren's layer by changing the opacity, erasing, and rotating. These images relate conceptually because they are both bright. I brought the serious of Lauren together with the happy beach image to demonstrate the powerfulness of the ocean. The steps I took to merge these layers were to play around with the opacity and blending options, and also to erase the parts of the portrait I didn't want to keep to blend the layers.
